Welcome!
WIPF, a non-profit arts organization dedicated to the performance and teaching of classical music at the highest standard, is proud to announce the 2nd Washington International Piano Festival, July 25-31, 2010. The festival will take place on the beautiful campus of the Catholic University of America as well as at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in the U.S. capital, Washington, D.C. Young aspiring concert pianists, teachers, amateurs, and piano lovers of all ages from all over the world are invited to participate in this inspiring and unique one-week festival.

The goal of our festival is to provide the best learning experience for everyone by combining an intensive educational program with an outstanding concert series presented by world-class classical pianists. We invite you to become part of the festival either as an active participant or an observer (see registration). Like last year, we have planned numerous exciting events that will take place during our piano festival. All participants will have the opportunity to work with prominent piano pedagogues in one-on-one private lessons and to participate in recitals, educational workshops, lectures and master classes that will focus on both piano solo and piano ensemble repertoire. All active participants will have an opportunity to perform in the festival concerts taking place at the Kennedy Center and the Catholic University of America.

An important and exciting addition to the festival's program this year is the International Piano Pedagogy Symposium featuring outstanding guest speakers including Maurice Hinson, Gary L. Ingle (CEO of the US Music Teachers National Association) and Seikoh Fukuda (CEO of the Japanese Piano Teachers National Association). The symposium will cover topics such as "Teaching Piano in the 21st century," "Wellness in Piano Playing," and "Contemporary Piano Making." Another novelty for our festival will be launching of a Young Pianist Showcase concert series. These 30-min-long concerts, preceding our guest artists' evening concerts, will feature an array of extraordinarily talented young pianists living and studying in the Washington DC Metropolitan Area who are prizewinners of local, national and international piano competitions.

We are very proud and excited to present again to the festival participants and the Washington D.C. Metro Area a series of piano recitals featuring internationally-renowned artists such as Boris Berman, Frederic Chiu, Thomas Hecht, and Nikita Fitenko (see ticket information). Selected 2010 WIPF participants will also have the once-in-a-life-time opportunity to perform in two concerts at the Kennedy Center's Millennium Stage on July 29 and July 30. Both concerts will be webcast live at www.kennedy-center.org. In addition to the intensive program offerings, participants will have the chance to enjoy and explore the cultural and historical sights of Washington, D.C. including museums, galleries, memorials, monuments, theaters and restaurants.

Last year we welcomed more than 50 participants, faculty and guest artists from all over the world including Japan, China, Russia, Germany, France, Italy, Bulgaria and the U.S. They all made the first edition of our festival become not only the very first piano festival in Washington, DC but also one of the most successful additions to the nation's capital's summer cultural life. We are sure that our 2010 WIPF will once again be one of the most significant summer cultural events in the Washington DC metropolitan area.
