The Fourth Catholic University of America Piano Competition
Tuesday, July 25, and Wednesday, July 26, 2017, Ward Recital Hall
The Catholic University of America, Washington, DC

I. Eligibility
The competition is open to all participants of the 2017 Washington International Piano Festival.
Categories: Pre-college (up to 18) and College/Professional (18 and up)

II. Repertoire Requirements
Each participant needs to present a 15-minute program of solo piano works representing at least 2 stylistic periods. The program must include one piano miniature (less than 4 minutes long). All repertoire must be performed from memory.Competitors who choose to play a sonata or suite will be allowed to play a single movement.

III. Awards
1st Prize: Diploma and Gold Medal
The 1st Prize winner of the College/Professional category will be invited to present solo piano recital during the 2017-18 concert season of the Washington International Piano Series at CUA in Washington, DC. Transportation and accommodation will be paid by the WIPF. Only one 1st Prize will be awarded in each category.
2nd Prize: Diploma and Silver Medal
3rd Prize: Diploma and Bronze Medal
Honorable Mention Diplomas

All prizes except the 1st Prize can be shared. The WIPF reserves the right to give additional prizes. Prizes will be presented at the Gala Concert of the Prizewinners of the Catholic University Piano Competition on Saturday, July 29, 2017, at 6:45 pm, in Ward Recital Hall. All winners are required to participate.

IV. Judges
The CUA Piano Competition will be judged by piano faculty and guest artists of the 2017 WIPF. Judges' decisions are final. Judges are not obligated to award all prizes. Judges have the right to interrupt a performance during the competition.

V. Schedule
The CUA Piano Competition Preliminary Round will take place in Ward Recital Hall on Tuesday, July 25, from
10:00 am to 6:00 pm (with a lunch break from noon to 1:00 pm). The Final Round will take place on Wednesday, July 26, 2017, at 7:00 pm. Competitors will perform in alphabetical order.
There will be a Gala Concert of the Prizewinners of the Catholic University of America Piano Competition on Saturday, July 29, 2017, at 6:45 pm, in Ward Recital Hall. All winners are required to participate.

NOTE: All participants in the CUA Piano Competition will be automatically considered for selection at the Kennedy Center Concerts (no separate audition will be required). Competitors who do not wish to be considered for the Kennedy Center performances should indicate "CUAPC ONLY" on their WIPF Application Forms.

If you would like to audition ONLY for the Kennedy Center concerts: please indicate "KC ONLY" in your WIPF festival application.
If you would like to audition ONLY for the Catholic University Piano Competition, please indicate "CUAPC ONLY" inyour WIPF festival application.
If you would like to be considered for BOTH the Kennedy Center concerts AND the Catholic University Piano Competition, please indicate "KC AND CUAPC" in your WIPF application.
